Betty Field for Congress 2018

About Betty

Betty FieldBetty Field seeks to serve all the people of Colorado Congressional District 5 through listening to your needs and providing passionate and courageous representation.

Betty Field has extensive experience in social work, helping with educational programs that made a difference for children who faced poverty, addiction, violence, and an education system that struggled to meet their needs. She worked with children and families as a youth and family crisis intervention specialist for Volunteers of America. While there, she established the “Mommy’s Closet” program, which provides items such as clothing, cribs, and books, as well as services like GED testing and job training, to mothers in need. Under Field’s leadership, Mommy’s Closet served over 13,000 families in Western South Dakota.

Betty also served as executive director for the Black Hills Center for Equality, which provided vital services including a youth group and legislative action group for LGBTQ communities in South Dakota. While there, she worked for Equality South Dakota and received an invitation from the White House to attend a conference in Washington, D.C., on LGBT Issues in Rural America.

Betty has advocated for veterans on a personal level, fighting the Department of Veterans Affairs for care on behalf of her former husband, who suffered cancer and other effects of Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam. Though his original prognosis gave him six months to live, the retired Marine is still around, and he and Field are still good friends. They have two children together: Trevor, who lives in Colorado Springs, and Cady, who lives in Boulder.

Through her advocacy, Betty has seen the issues facing poor and middle-class families today, and she is moved to help. She will listen to and value all of her constituents, and she will represent all of us in Washington, D.C. This is her goal, her passion, and her purpose.
